5 Online Learning Tools You Can Use in Class and Online

1. Loom Screen Recorder

Loom is a screen recorder that lets you record your lessons to upload to whatever platform you want for your students to access. Loom Screen Recorder is a free resource for schools, educators, and students.

Loom Screen Recorder extension has to be downloaded through the Chrome Webstore.

You can screen record with your face and/or audio (I.e., you do not have to record your face, you can just audio and screen record).

Loom Screen Recorder can be very effective for maths-based subjects, such as maths, science, and accounting, and also languages.

2. AWW App

AWW App is a really simple whiteboard app you can use collaboratively with your class. You can insert text, insert post-it notes, freehand write, upload photos and pdfs, add blocks of colour, and incorporate student responses.

After you have finished with your whiteboard(s) for the class. You can export and download them and send them to your students!

AWW app has a free version you can use, which I have attached a photo of one where I inserted two maps and a post-it note. It is very easy to use and can really benefit your online classroom.

3. Flipgrid

FlipGrid is an online tool that lets student and/or teachers create videos as part of their learning. It is pretty straightforward to navigate and understand. You can create a topic which the students must respond to, such as responding to simple statements, answering questions, conducting presentations, etc. Students record themselves and then upload their recordings into the grid space you have created. You can choose to keep students videos hidden from each other or visible to each other.

I must note, this is a tool you will have to be careful about using and research into your country’s and school’s policy and recordings of you (teacher) and the students. You must be very careful when using tools that record yourself and/or students and monitor them closely so no bullying occurs or videoing of the videos are taken.

4. Near Pod

Near Pod is another time of platform and/or interactive tool to help create an engaging lesson. You can create interactive presentations with questions, quizzes, polls, collaboration, exit tickets, and so much more. You can hide student names on this tool to help encourage student participation if you have any students with anxiety answering questions in class.

There are free and paid versions of Near Pod and to be honest, you can get away with using the free version no problem!

You can also explore so many different lessons in their library too! This way you might not have to create an entire lesson and can use segments of their library to help you or give you lesson ideas.

5. Pear deck

Pear Deck is a free add on extension to help improve your google slides. Once you have downloaded the extension, you will be able to insert audio, questions, exit tickets and other types of formative assessment into your google presentation to make the lesson more interactive with your students. Student responses are anonymous which can help reduce student anxiety about answering questions.
