5 Online Tools to Aid Your Class/Online Class

Here are five more tools to help diversify the educational technology you use in class and in your online class.

1. Soundcloud

Soundcloud is a site which allows you to upload audio. Typically, it is used for recording music/song audio. However, this site could be perfect for any language teachers and students out there!

You can upload you speaking a sentence or group of sentences in the language you teach (or for helping lower primary school students learn sound and speech). Afterwards, the students can practice what you are saying or respond to a question you ask.

You can then drop comments in at particular times on the audio file so students know what you are referring to in your feedback.

2. Animoto

Animoto is a site which allows you to create presentation videos out of pictures and videos.

It is extremely easy to use as it provides several templates to create your video or you can choose a blank template to create a video from scratch.

Animoto is a site you can use to make your class more versatile in terms of the educational technology you use OR you can have the students create their own video. A good idea could be to create an advertisement for Business Studies or English.

There are free and paid versions of this sire. However, as an educator, you can sign up for the Animoto for: Educators option which will allow you to access pro features that you cannot access unless you pay for your account.

3. Instructables

Instructables is a site where you can share what you make. You can view what other people have already made and follow their step by step instructions or you can create your own video/tutorial on something you have made/do.

This can be quite good for more practical based subjects.

OR

You can use this site as a wellbeing tool. You can challenge students to share a tutorial on something they can make/do or get them to follow a tutorial along and share their results! It can be a bit of fun away from the academic side of in class/online learning.

4. Educreations

Educreations is a whiteboard app that allows you to draw, write text, insert text, insert images, etc. It also allows you to screen record what you are doing or going through the information you have created afterwards.

You could also get students to do their work through this whiteboard app and ask the students to explain their process step by step. This could be very useful for maths, sciences, languages, etc.

This app does have free and paid versions so there will be limitations in the free version.

5. Mindmeister

Mindmeister is a website which allows you to create mind maps very easily. This can be very handy to do in class with students or within an online setting where all students can create their own map easily and quickly. Their maps will be clear, neat, and organised which will allow students to understand their maps when it comes to revision.

As you can see, I created the start of a mind map for poetic devices below. This took me about 3 minutes to create once I was signed up and signed in.

You can save and download the maps. This can be useful for giving maps out to students and also for creating wall displays.

However, the free version only allows you to create up to three maps.
